The Engineering Department, in collaboration with other City departments, contractors, consultants and the community, plans and manages the design and construction of the City’s public infrastructure and facilities, and participates in long term planning efforts. Since 2019, the local office of Harris & Associates has provided municipal engineering services to the City of Sand City. The City Engineer is Leon Gomez with Harris & Associates.
The Engineering Department provides the following services:
- Manages and implements civil improvement projects outlined in the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP);
- Issues calls for Bids and Request for Proposals (RFP);
- Evaluates and negotiates contracts and provides recommendations for award;
- Manages the City s’ Encroachment Permit Program, which regulates any work or impacts to the public right-of-way;
- Manages the City’s Municipal Storm Water Permit and Program;
- Represents the City on local and regional Technical Advisory Committees;
- Prepares reports for, and assists with, various transportation funding programs;
- Coordinates with utility providers for water, sewer, gas, electric, and communications services;
- Reviews proposed developments and site improvements for adherence to City standards and local, state and federal requirements, codes and regulations, and best engineering practices; and
- In collaboration with the City Surveyor, reviews Final Maps, Parcel Maps, Lot Mergers, Lot Line Adjustments, Easements, and related documents.
