Welcome to the Sand City Police Department webpage. The officers and professional staff of our Department strive to provide the best service possible to our community and the Monterey Peninsula. We are dedicated to working collaboratively with the community and other law enforcement agencies in order to impact crime and improve quality of life for our residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Sand City Police Department, under the direction of the Chief of Police, David Honda, is dedicated to the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws in a just and impartial manner. They are cognizant of both statutory and judicial limitations on police powers and continue to uphold the Constitutional Rights guaranteed to all individuals. The Sand City Police Department consists of the Chief of Police, a Commander, two Sergeants, six Officers and two Reserve Officers on a rotating 4-11 schedule.

The Vision of the Sand City Police Department is to earn and maintain the pride and respect of the community by providing quality public service to its diverse population through regional partnerships, technology, and community collaboration. The Department will strive to operate in a moral, ethical, compassionate, and transparent manner in all its dealings both private and public.

The Mission of the Sand City Police Department is to work in partnership with the community to provide exceptional police services that improve the quality of life for our residents, businesses and visitors.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

The Sand City Police Department is committed to serving the needs of residents, businesses and visitors in Sand City. Beyond this, however, the department firmly believes in reaching beyond the borders of the City to actively give back to the greater community in which we live. By participating in a variety of programs that are educational, professional and charitable in nature, the Sand City Police Department proudly participates in the well being of its community.

Special Programs

PENINSULA REGIONAL VIOLENCE AND NARCOTICS TEAM – P.R.V.N.T.

The Sand City Police Department is a member of the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team. The team is dedicated to impacting narcotics, gangs, and violence on the Peninsula through a collaborative effort between local agencies. Because drugs and violence are ever present in many of our communities, it is especially important that there is mutual cooperation among departments in this aspect of law enforcement.

Mission: PRVNT’s goal was to suppress and investigate violent crimes and illegal drug use. It aimed to improve coordination and intelligence sharing among police departments in the region.

Operations: PRVNT operates from a facility in Monterey and served jurisdictions throughout the Monterey Peninsula. The team focused on proactive strategies to combat gang violence and organized crime.

SPECIAL RESPONSE UNIT – S.R.U.

The Sand City Police Department is active in the Monterey Peninsula Regional Special Response Unit (S.R.U.). The SRU is a tactical team consisting of specially trained officers able to respond to high risk events on the Peninsula. The team also includes negotiators and tactical medical personnel. To be assigned to the SRU, an officer must complete a rigorous application process including physical fitness, firearms qualifications and an interview before being selected. These officers receive a significant amount of training during their time assigned to the team.
